The Woman Doctors Association Tamil Nadu – established in 1975

A group of  like minded, committed, stalwarts of their time sowed the seed of this organisation – with a motto to uplift and make the woman professionals more competent and to fight for their rights Remembering a few doyens Dr.C.N.Sowmini, Dr.Visalakshi Nedunchezian , Dr.Saradha Menon, Dr. Mathangi Ramakrishnan, Dr.T.S.Kanaka ,Dr.T.P.Saraswathy  who worked  tirelessly towards the association

1. Endowments which are given at our conferences to women who have contributed to the society
   1. Mrs. Malathy’s Endowment  –  woman professionals, preferably over the age of 55 who  has  excelled in  any field like  in  Art ,  Science or  Social  service

   2. Mr. Kasirajan’s Endowment   is  awarded  to  any  woman  doctor  who  has  made  her mark  in  her  chosen  field  of  medicine  or  in  any  other  field  of  arts , Science  or  Social  service.

2. Recognising women on the occasion of woman day for their outstanding contribution
   1. Mrs Krishnammal Jagannathan – a great freedom fighter and Gandhian follower. She was instrumental in starting the Bhoodhan movement spearheaded under Vinobha Bhave.
   2. Dr Savitri Subramaniyan – a renowned professor, amazing teacher and academician
   3. Miss Susheela  Correspondent  Avvai   Home  was  honored  for  her   Exceptional work and Benefaction towards upliftment of girls with a power, envisaged mission ‘Life is Dignity through Education to under privileged girls”
3. Educating the doctors and aspiring students with regular updates and classes in the field of medicine and on social topics
   1. Breast & Gynaec Onco CME in collaboration with SIMS Hospital Vadapalani was well attended
   2.  Next Generation PDT CME – an event  organised along with  IMA  Academy  of  Medical  Specialties  ( IMAAMS) . Donald L. Murphy MD. FRACS a noteworthy urologist from Australia along with Mr. Scott P Waters addressed a gathering of over 250 delegates on the use of Photo dynamics therapy in their respective specialties
   3. Undergraduate students appearing for the final year exams attend our medical education programme taken by senior doctor of the respective specialties covering 4 main subjects Medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics & gynecology
   4. The Income tax department gave a talk on the income declaration scheme which was attended in large numbers by the health care providers in both the government and the private sector
4. Committed to serving the people WDA is actively involved in health camps which are covering a large part of people living in the rural areas
   1. At Neyveli village along with the resource personal of WIA and Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy women’s association
   2. As a part of the centenary celebration of WIA – a well attended health camp was conducted at MGR  Janaki  college of  Arts  and  Science  for  women at  R.A.Puram
   3. The camp along with R K Mutt was offered to residents in and around Meyyur village where the local bodies helped and motivated a large number of villagers to attend the camp and avail the tests done

5. The mega event is our annual conference held at the end of the year at hotel Jayapushpam in Nov 2017, where the momentos of the endowment were given. The meeting highlights were a panel discussion on ‘’ HEALTH OF WOMEN AFTER 40 ‘’and the talk given Dr Brinda Kalro on  “Alternative Medicine -Its role in health and medicine”
6. Celebration of womanhood in synchronization with the international woman day in March 2018 at the Madras Medical College was a festive bonanza where the theme “ ’Women Varied  Facets” was displayed through skit, dance and song by members and active participants of the function
