The office bearers of the WDA started the yearly activity soon after they took over.
Dr.Muthulakshmi had organized a Vellore meet on the 26th Junly 2009.The power packed speech delivered by Dr.Fathima VasanthMSW M.Phil PhD ,Principal Madras School of Social Work Egmore, Chennai on “Empowering Women Professionals” was appreciated by the audience. It was heartening to enroll 13 new members from Vellore into our Association.
A novel session where in 50 girl students of +1 of a corporation school were sensitized on General Hygiene & Nutrition, Menstrual Hygiene & prevention of certain dermatological conditions by our members on 3 sessions during August 2009. These students later took over as the resource persons for the rest of the school children.Dr.Kokila Selvaraj, Dr.Senthamil Selvi & Dr.Premlatha were involved in this training program.
A very useful & informative talk on “Tax Planning for Medical Professionals” by Mr.Sekhar ,Founder Sri Gurukripa Inst. Of Management was held in Kilpauk Medical College on 26th September 2009
9th January 2010 –Symposium on Child Abuse, for the teachers of Corporation High Schools was one of the very effective programs of WDA. Nearly 200 teachers from 9 schools participated & interacted with our resource persons; Dr. Saradha Suresh, Dr.Jayanthini, Ms.Nancy (Tulir). Different aspects on this issue including Physical, Sexual & Emotional Abuse were discussed.
30th January 2010 –An Elocution competition titled “Role of students in Arresting Global Warming” was conducted both in Tamil & English for the High School students of Corporation Schools. A panel of judges (woman doctors) selected the winners & prices were awarded.
6th February 2010 – A one day Work Shop on “Emotional Intelligence” was organized at Pharmacology Seminar Hall(Madras Medical College) The workshop concentrated on Perceiving, Using ,Understanding & Managing emotions and gave participants an opportunity to ask questions and contribute their own experiences and understanding on the topic, 36 members enjoyed the experience.
The International Woman’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm on March 6th, 2010 at the Institute of Child Health, Egmore. A symposium on ‘The Woman’ was conducted to commemorate the “International Woman’s Day”. Our chief guest was Mrs. Girija Raghavan, Editor, Ladies Special a highly enterprising woman. Dr. Kamala Selvaraj, Dr. Saradha Suresh & Dr. Sudha Seshaiyan, eminent women Doctors spoke on Pride of Women and their achievements. The symposium was attended by women from various fields of medicine.
The Symposium on “Low Backache“ on the 3rd of July 2010,at the Pharmacology Seminar Hall, Madras Medical College was received with great enthusiasm by our members. Over 100 delegates attended this program. Experts in Neurology, Gynecology, Pharmacology & to cap it all a Yoga Therapist shared their experience with the audience.
Annual Conference 2010 was organized on 24th October in Madras Medical College,Auditorium.
Ms.Malathy (IAS) Chief Secretary Govt. of TN was the Chief Guest & Ms. Bharathy Bhaskar the eminent patti mandram speaker was the Guest of honor.Dr.Sunithy Solomon,Dr.Senthamil Selvi,Dr.Prema Padhmanabhan,DrJayanthy & Dr.Lalitha were the Guest speakers.
The Oration was awarded to Dr.Manorama & Dr.Saratha Kathiresan
